Go Cubs Go!!! Today’s random thoughts

I wrote a few weeks back how teams like the Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs are bringing America’s Pastime back to the forefront and making the sport fun to watch again. The past two nights have shown why.

The Cubs and Astros have advanced past the win-or-go-home Wild Card round and are truly playoff teams now. So what can we expect going down the road?

I am 100% on the Cubs and Astros bandwagon now. I have long spoken of how my brother has been a die hard Cubbies fan for more than 30 years, so now that my Yankees are out, I am rooting for him. Plus they are so darn fun to watch.

This has been dubbed the Year of the Prospect, with so many rookies changing the face of the sport. It’s only fitting that the Astros and Cubs square off in this year’s World Series. The American League is wide open, it’s not entirely out of the question that the Astros sneak in to the Fall Classic.

I am looking forward to this Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets matchup. If anyone can hang with the 1-2 punch of Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke it’s the Fearsom Four of Matt Harvey (as long as he is on time), Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz.

The Cubs and Cardinals series is also interesting because of the history behind it. They are two of the longest established franchises and one happens to be one of the winningest while the other is amongst the losingest (that may or may not be an actual word).

But when it comes to the Cubs and Cardinals, it’s really about their futures. The Cards always have a silly deep farm system, and now the Cubs do, too. Kyle Schwarber and Kris Bryant are simply too much fun to watch and what Jake Arrieta is doing is just nasty.

I wish the Astros and Royals could meet up in the ALCS, because I have no interest whatsoever in that Rangers and Blue Jays series. The Blue Jays are built to win now, maybe next year, while who knows with the Rangers. They could go to back-to-back World Series again or they could fall off a cliff like they did last time. The Astros and the Royals however seem to be two of the marquis teams in the AL for the foreseeable future.

It will be a great series, but I think the bottom line is that the Royals simply don’t have a pitcher as good as Dallas Keuchel. Keuchel proved Tuesday night that he doesn’t need a lot of rest to be dominant, and that could take the Astros far, maybe even World Series far.

The American League:
Blue Jays oust the Rangers

Astros beat the Royals

Youth prevails over Canadians as the Astros head to the World Series.

The National League:

The Cubs advance over the Cardinals.

As much as I want to see Donnie Baseball get that ever elusive ring, I think the Mets pitching is deeper, which propels them to victory.

The Cubs youth trumps the Mets youth in the NLCS.

World Series:

Honestly, I hope the Cubs and Astros go seven games and that said seventh game is a 30-inning marathon, because I don’t want this season to end. That being said, Go Cubs Go!!!
